FAQ

Arrival Checklist
There is one primary entrance for all Summit activities which you will enter through a large tent featuring Breakthrough Energy signage.

Transportation: For public transit options, see this helpful link with interactive routes and schedules for bus or light rail.

Parking: Parking is available at the Bell Street Pier Garage, which connects directly to Bell Harbor and World Trade Center Seattle via the skybridge and can be accessed on both Elliott Avenue and Wall Street. View garage address and hours here.

On-site Registration
Registration for Summit opens on Monday, October 17 at 5:00 PM PT beginning with our Welcome Reception at Bell Harbor. Registration Desks will remain open throughout the event.

Pre-access Barcode: On the morning of the 17th, you will receive a barcode that is your required form of entry prior to registration.
Checking in: Upon arrival at Bell Harbor, locate the large entrance tent on Alaskan Way and present the barcode sent via email at the first checkpoint. Head to the Registration Desk located on the first floor, where you’ll receive your conference name badge. We ask you to wear your name badge throughout the event for security purposes.

Late Arrivals: Registration will remain open throughout the duration of the event, where we’ll support your Summit experience at any time. Our Registration Desk will also serve as a help desk for general inquiries throughout Summit.

Coat Check: You are welcome to check your coat near the entry. However, due to space and security reasons, we are unable to store luggage and large bags. Please make other arrangements if you have luggage.

Summit Protocols
COVID-19 Protocol: In adherence to CDC, state, and local guidelines, proof of vaccination and/or proof of negative test is not required for admission at this time. Optional, disposable masks and rapid tests will be available on site. To read the complete COVID-19 policy, see the FAQ below and venue protocols here.

Media Coverage: Our Summit guests include a select group of well-regarded journalists, identified by red lanyards and red bars on the bottom of their badges, in attendance to learn more about Breakthrough Energy and our partners.

Security: The Bell Harbor International Conference Center is a secure facility. Event badges are required to access the venue and must be worn at all times.

Image Authorization: Photography and videography will be captured throughout the duration of the event. By entering the event, you hereby consent to and authorize the event organizers the right to photograph you and to use such photographs for any promotional purposes.

Special Accommodations: Daily menus during the Summit have been designed to accommodate all allergies and dietary restrictions. A lactation room will be available for the duration of the event. For additional needs not listed in your registration, please email breakthroughsummit@breakthroughenergy.org.

Helpful Tips
Attire: Official Summit attire is business casual for all events.

Weather: The weather forecast is crisp autumn weather, with average highs of 60°F (16°C) and lows of 45°F (7°C). Check the latest forecast here.

Time Zone: Be sure to update your clock to the Pacific Daylight Time zone (GMT-7).

Breakthrough Energy Summit is an annual event that gathers global climate change trailblazers to provide a platform for accelerating clean energy innovation. 

Summit is the signature event of Breakthrough Energy, an organization established by Bill Gates to accelerate the clean energy transition by advancing the solutions we’ll need to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. With support from a global network of partners, Breakthrough Energy’s initiatives fund, develop, commercialize, and scale climate technologies.

This is an in-person, invite-only event. 

Breakthrough Energy Summit will be held in Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle, Washington (USA) from October 17th – 19th, 2022.

Invited guests include entrepreneurs, innovators, business leaders, policy makers, media, as well as leaders from Breakthrough Energy. You can find a list of all attendees registered to date here.

Our Summit guests also include a select group of well-regarded journalists. They can be identified by red lanyards and red bars on the bottom of their badges. They are attending the Summit to learn more about Breakthrough Energy and our partners. There is no obligation for you to engage with media if you choose not to.

Attendees will have access to two-days of learning and connecting. Content includes plenary sessions, fireside chats, panel discussions, 1:1 networking, entertainment, and more. View the official agenda with live updates above.

The Breakthrough Energy Summit is following all CDC, state, and local guidelines and continues to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please note that the following protocols are subject to change in alignment with developments in local health guidance:

  • Proof of vaccination and/or COVID-19 testing are not required for attendance at this time. 
  • Masking is not mandatory within the event space or programs. Optional, disposable masks will be available on site.
  • Additional safety measures:
  • Rapid tests will be provided upon request at Bell Harbor and our partner hotels.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be distributed throughout the venue. 
  • Please refrain from attending if you feel ill, are experiencing a viral infection with flu-like symptoms, or were recently exposed to a person who tested positive for COVID-19.
